I had the opportunity to stay in this beautiful hotel, so join me as I explore every corner, from the sophisticated rooms to the impressive rooftop dining.

The MGallery Collection

The first time I experienced the unique luxury of an MGallery hotel was during my trip to Strasbourg, France. I got to stay at the Hotel Cour du Corbeau, a 16th-century building in the heart of Strasbourg that had been beautifully restored. I fell in love with the hotel instantly!

City View rooms have breathtaking views of the historic centre of Athens.

Each boutique hotel in the MGallery collection has its own distinct story, inviting guests to immerse themselves in a destination for a memorable stay.

The Athens Capital Hotel proudly stands as the first MGallery hotel in Greece. Echoing the collection’s storytelling concept, it features a unique “Iconic Object” and a “Memorable Moment”. Each reflects the city’s rich history and traditions, forming an integral part of the hotel’s narrative as a new beacon of Athenian hospitality.

The hotel’s souvenir soap depicts an “akrokeramon”, a decorative element of ancient Greek temples.

Specifically, the hotel’s Iconic Object is the “Akrokeramon”, a decorative element revered as a hallmark of Neoclassical Athens’s architecture and symbolising the timeless value of hospitality.

The Welcome at Athens Capital Hotel MGallery

Located in Kolonaki, the chicest area of Athens, the hotel is surrounded by elegant boutiques, other luxury hotels and business buildings. Upon stepping into the hotel, you will immediately notice its attention to detail in its inviting lobby.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, and the lounge was busy but not in an overwhelming way. At the reception, we were greeted by Athena’s bright smile, a treasure of a receptionist, which she proved to be throughout our stay.

The Rooms at Athens Capital Hotel MGallery

Athens Capital Hotel MGallery - Deluxe Twin Room
We stayed in a Deluxe Twin room on the 6th floor with city views.

The hotel has 177 rooms, including 18 suites and a Presidential Suite, in a sophisticated style with artistic touches.

During our visit, we stayed in a deluxe room on the 6th floor, which had a view of Syntagma Square and Panepistimiou Avenue. The comfortably sized room had a pleasant colour scheme, with greyish off-white walls and blue furnishings.

The beds

Staying at an MGallery hotel is always a delight.

One of the signature features of MGallery hotels is their comfortable beds that guarantee a restful sleep. The Athens Capital Hotel did not disappoint. The beds have plush duvets, pillow-top mattresses, a large pillow for sitting in bed, and a comfortable bedhead.

The room was peaceful despite the occasional sound of people passing in the corridor. It was a serene oasis in the city’s hustle and bustle. Although we could hear some noise outside, it was minimal and didn’t bother us. We enjoyed our stay without distractions.

Room Amenities

The room was furnished with a desk, chair, a comfortable sofa facing the window, and a large flat-screen smart TV with access to Greek and international channels and Chromecast.

The room’s minibar offers still and sparkling water, soft drinks, snacks and alcoholic beverages. In addition, there is a coffee and tea-making station with an Illy coffee machine and everything required for a coffee or tea break.

The sofa in the Deluxe Room is perfect for lounging while admiring the fascinating view of Athens.

Special Touches for Added Comfort

Thoughtful touches such as a face massage kit, a sleeping mask and an additional vanity mirror with a hair dryer add to the comfort of female travellers.

In addition, the double-mirrored wardrobe contained a laptop-sized safe, bathrobes, slippers, an ironing board with an iron, a shoe-care kit, and two luxury garment hangers with satin-covered padding.

The bathroom

This bathroom is elegantly decorated. The grey-toned Greek marble on the floor and walls create a calming and sophisticated atmosphere.

Moreover, the walk-in shower has a rain effect and a regular shower head, making it the perfect place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing. The washbasin area has a large round mirror with a blue decorative panel complemented by a shaving mirror.

The countertop has ample space for cosmetics and makeup products. Bathroom toiletries are of the “Olivia Thinks” line by the historic Greek brand Papoutsanis. It is a brand famous in Greece for its high-quality soaps and bath products.

There was also a lovely box of bathroom amenities. This included bamboo toothbrushes, mini toothpaste, shower cups, and cotton pads.

The dining experience at Athens Capital Hotel MGallery

The bar of the Galerie Café on the ground floor.

Dining at the Athens Capital Hotel MGallery is an experience in itself. The hotel has two restaurants and a ground-floor café, which offer a delightful culinary experience.

Galerie Café on the ground floor is a vibrant, cosy cafe and bar that has become a popular meeting point for discerning and trendy Athenians. Unique art covers the walls, creating a welcoming and artistic atmosphere.

The hotel’s main restaurant, MFlavours, also serves breakfast and offers a broad selection of Mediterranean dishes enriched with exotic elements like poke bowls. Executive Chef Dimitris Boutsalis crafts them by using only the finest quality ingredients.

We dined at the beautiful Mappemonde rooftop bar and restaurant, which offers excellent city views. Notably, the creative cocktail menu captures the essence of the city’s vibrant spirit. Additionally, it pays homage to female guests through the delightful “Inspired By Her” Capital Lady cocktail—which we both loved!

Our dining experience was excellent. From the delicious sushi as a starter to the organic beef tenderloin and Uruguay grass-fed rib eye steak – both cooked to perfection – and the charcoal-roasted potatoes with “niotiko” cheese.

Desserts are the exclusive creation of the talented Nadia Makrygianni, and they are a refined affair. We particularly enjoyed the “Inspired By Her” chocolate profiterole and the hotel’s signature dessert, the “ekmek” with pistachio cream, “kaimaki” ice cream and cherry sauce.

The pool and the view

One of the hotel’s best assets is the rooftop infinity pool, with panoramic city views. On warmer days, you can relax on the pool loungers and bask under the famous Greek sun, cocktail in hand.

During our visit to the rooftop, I noticed the poolside loungers looked comfortable and clean. They seemed like the perfect spot to relax and unwind.

The azure-blue water of the pool looked so inviting that it was hard to resist the temptation to take a dip, even though it was winter. I’ll sure revisit the pool when the weather is warmer!

The so-called “Instagram viewing point” at the very top of the building offers breathtaking views of Athens, the Parthenon, and even as far as the Saronic Gulf islands!

Tip: Look to the left at the rooftop restaurant and pool area and see some stairs leading up. That staircase leads to the “Instagram viewing point” at the top.

You can enjoy spectacular 360-degree views of Athens, including the Acropolis with the Parthenon, the Lycabettus Hill, and even the city’s outskirts. On a clear day, like the one we were there, you can also see the Saronic Gulf islands.

Immersive Experiences

The hotel’s concierge service can help arrange special tours and activities during your stay. Furthermore, the Athens Capital Hotel offers a variety of “memorable experiences”.

For instance, you can enjoy private shopping tours tailored to your preferences or take a VIP tour of the Goulandris Museum and the Greek National Gallery.

Active and outdoorsy guests can take advantage of the hotel’s hiking and jogging excursions. These also include nutritious lunch boxes and energising protein smoothies.

Facilities at Athens Capital Hotel MGallery

If you’re into fitness, you’ll love the gym on the ground floor. It has top-of-the-line fitness and strength-training machines, perfect for a good workout.

In addition, the hotel offers unique and innovative ways to help you unwind and take care of your skin. While they don’t have a traditional spa or wellness facility, they provide a free face yoga session on TV.

It’s time to check out, but not to say goodbye – just “until next time” to this beautiful hotel.

The best part of staying in Athens Capital Hotel Mgallery

Although we enjoyed the room and the food during our stay, the highlight was the service. From the reception to the housekeeping, every member of the hotel’s staff was beyond polite and helpful.

For instance, a complimentary bottle of wine greeted us upon our arrival—a delightful touch to begin our stay. Admittedly, I struggled a bit with the corkscrew, which prompted me to reach out to the staff at reception.

A friendly attendant knocked at our door within five minutes, ready to help. After I explained the situation, they quickly returned with a fresh bottle and opened it for us.

This hotel’s staff goes above and beyond to meet guests’ needs with a friendly and cheerful demeanour.
